Understanding Assessments

Accessing an initial IEP requires a psycho-educational evaluation (also known as a psycho-educational assessment). After your initial IEP is in place, updated assessments of your child are required every three (3) years.

Having a strong assessment that paints a comprehensive and accurate portrait of your child’s unique strengths and areas of need is crucial to accessing appropriate placement and educational supports.

This workshop covers:

•the basics on how to request assessments and understanding assessment timelines

•what to expect during the assessment process

•what types of assessments exist and which to request

•how to read and understand assessments

•what to do if your child’s school or district denies them an assessment
