VISION

Our kids with disabilities' futures depend on equitable access to a high quality education that is individualized to their specific needs and learning profiles. Although the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (I.D.E.A. - a federal law) guarantees students with disabilities individualized supports, services and protection, so many schools and districts fall short on this promise. The vast majority of parents don’t have the information they need to effectively advocate for their kids.

SpEducational envisions a groundswell of change where families of students with exceptional needs are able to secure their rights and fulfill their highest potential via parent power. We will build a movement where every parent will learn their kids' rights, effectively access them, and come together with other families to demand better education for all.

MISSION

SpEducational's mission is to educate parents from all walks of life so that they can be effective advocates and allies for their children in schools. Through workshops, community forums, social media and an ever expanding network of newly informed and empowered special education parents, SpEducational will work to improve access to high quality education for students of all abilities. SpEducational will also organize parents to collectively advocate and demand positive change around key systemic issues that impact millions of kids at the local, state and national level.

“Parents have become so convinced that educators know what is best for their children that they forget that they themselves are really the experts.”

— Marian Wright Edelman, Founder of Children’s Defense Fund
